The core of existence

“I have been working on the series of the human head from a long time. With the central form I amalgamate multiple geometrical as well as eclectic images and elements. Since my concept is about unveiling the innate activity of a human mind, the span of the imagery that can be portrayed is vast and endless. A human mind is the core and centre of sublime, unbounded imagination and thought processes,” he says.

One of his untitled sculptures in fibre glass is on display at Kalakriti art gallery as a part of a group show, Sands of Time. The larger-than-life-sized head has been painted in bright scarlet and yet the soft and rhythmic facial features grant it a feminine grace that cannot be missed. Some sections of the head are covered with geometrical forms and some with simplified, subtly curving petals of flower buds.

B. Srinivas Reddy

A graduate from JNAFAU Hyderabad and post graduate from Baroda, Srinivas has been teaching sculpture to College students consistently since 1992. At present he is a Professor at JNAFAU, Sculpture department. While talking about his experiences of interacting with students on a regular basis he shares, “Fine arts studies are very different. Since the subject is prominently practical. It is very necessary that the students experience the work of professional artists closely and observe the different stages of the art work. The relationship of a serious artist with his medium of expression can inspire students to pursue their own creative journey. So, I believe in exposing the students to the process of creation and also to the later stages when completed work is exhibited in an art gallery.

Another important aspect of interacting with students is the fact that we teachers get to learn a lot from them. The student’s dedication to the subject and yearning to master the technique is amazing.
