Hyderabad sees a successful book drive

Book donation drive will see collection going to going to re-furbish old libraries in schools and help eliminate education inequality.

Hyderabad: K Raheja Corp's Teaching Tree, drew the curtains on its second successful season of its Book Donation Drive.

The collection drive which opened itself to already read books, new story books and notebooks was a community engagement program which saw participation from clients working out of the Mindspace Business Park as well as employees of K Raheja Corp.

Books collected were handed over to the NGO Teach for India, who will utilize them to set up new libraries and re-furbish old libraries in schools that need the assistance.

A live tree shaped book-rack replicating the Teaching Tree symbol in full bloom with the collected books was unveiled in the presence of talented actress Bhanu Sri Tripathi. For the children, it was a pleasure to receive a mix of interesting books and they were especially excited about the story books.

The Book Donation drive which kicked off two weeks ago has seen whole-hearted support from the people of Hyderabad and the employees of Mindspace Business Park.

While the tally of the total number of books will still take a few days, the numbers are very encouraging and it promises to be a generous stash of books.

Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Shrawan Kumar Gone, Director Operations, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, K Raheja Corp said, “It is fundamental to engage students with interesting reading material in developing their creative thinking while honing their learning skills. The books collected are across a varied set of genres and are sure to give the students excellent reading material.” He goes on to add that they aim to contribute to the field of education with the sole purpose of transforming the lives of children in need and eliminating education inequality.

Speaking on the drive, Teach for India spokesperson said, "We congratulate K Raheja Corp for the successful completion of the donation drive and we are extremely grateful to them for initiating this drive which would benefit 5100 children of Teach For India in honing their reading skills. The books collected will help us set up new libraries and renew old libraries in schools where our Fellows are striving to provide an excellent education to children. We consider this as a 'celebration of giving'.”

Speaking on the initiative, actress Bhanu Sri Tripathi said, “This philanthropic initiative by K Raheja Corp in association with the Teach for India not only promotes literacy in the community but also gives these young students an opportunity to develop their learning skills. The books collected will encourage reading among students, which is essential for a child’s overall growth. I am delighted to be a part of this cause, and interact with these kids about their ambitions and future goals in life.”
