It is famously said that a picture can speak a thousand words and the students of Hamstech Institute of Fashion & Interior Design in Hyderabad did just that at the recently held photography exhibition, Pixel Perfect — From lens to life. The third edition of the annual exhibition captured different stories, right from a personal tale to frames filled with faces and places that they love.

Elaborating on the concept and his love for photography, Ravi Teja, one of the 40 participating students, says, “For me, photography is all about vision rather than camera and techniques. The photograph on display is of the entrance of Warangal Fort. The moment I saw the arch, I knew I had to take the picture from a low to high angle which would add to the depth of field.”

Another student who came up with a completely different take on portrait photographs was Richie John. “It was my take on high fashion with a full black and gold concept in portrait mode. I was surprised with the outcome myself,” says Richie, adding, “After finishing the one-year course in photography, I would like to venture into wedding and fashion photography.”

In an interesting take on street photography, student John Mougilikala clicked a man coming right out of a smoke filled bore well. Talking about the concept behind the capture, he says, “I always want to tell stories through my photos. Even for this picture, I spent a long time around bore wells.” He adds, “Apart from regular classes and workshops, we have mentors like celebrity photographer Avinash Gowariker, who gives valuable insights on how to make a normal photo go a notch up.”

For ultimate novice Karthik Sai, who didn’t even know how to handle a camera, let alone click a photograph, to be displayed at the exhibition was a matter of great pride. “Abstract photography attracts me a lot. I love the play of different lights which creates mesmerisingly surprising captures,” says Karthik.
