Rooms are thoughtfully colour-coded and stacked with memorabilia and undergo frequent revamps.

Colourful and bright objects can help bring a positive energy to the mind, uplifting it. That’s exactly what Anamika Singh Rawat has done to her cosy haven in Mahalingapuram. Situated near Guruvayoor Temple, her house looks vibrant and lively with all the memorabilia she has collected over the years. “I’m a big devotee of Buddha and Ganesh, so most of the space is filled with their statues, while the rest is for my paintings and designs,” says Anamika, manager at a private skin clinic.

Her penchant for art helped her bedeck her house with glass paintings and other artworks, which she has done herself. “I’m not an interior designer, but I designed my house. I made clear plans of which colour must go to which room, and how attractive it would look there,” she says. Most of the artworks in her house use recyclable products like paper, vases, and used glass bottles as canvas.

The most striking aspect of her house (which has been named Anamika’s Adobe) is that its interiors keep changing every six months, thanks to her never-ending love for artworks. “I get bored of living in the same environment for too long, hence I make new glass paintings and buy new goodies to replace the existing ones. I also change the colour of the paint used. This gives a new and revamped look to the house,” she informs.

According to her, the house is where a person is at peace after a hard day’s toil at work. Hence, one’s house must be extremely comfortable and inviting when you return. “My bedroom has many wall stickers stuck all over, mainly to entertain my nephew who comes to visit me. He loves watching the cartoon stickers and I too keep staring at them every time I miss him,” she says.

The new set of designs that she plans to give her house is floral patterns and paintings. This time she wishes to make it simple without any clutter. “I also wish to bring in more statues of Buddha and change the colour to orange and green to make it more energetic. There is one section of the house that is my corner, where me and friends handle the paint, the texture and the interiors that go to each section,” she smiles.

“My friends party at my place often and I’m left with many bottles. I do not throw them away; instead, I paint over or convert them into lamps. They adorn most of the shelves here and I also gift them to my friends,” concludes Anamika, with a big grin.
