Madras HC Seeks Centre’s Response to PIL on Saurav Das' Nationality
The PIL petition was filed by R. Ganesh Kumar, a businessman from Kanchipuram
A plea has been filed in the Madras High Court on Friday seeking an investigation into the nationality and background of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) spokesperson Saurav Das, and to cancel his passport and Aadhaar card if he is not found to be an Indian, as well as to block his social media accounts.
The PIL petition was filed by R. Ganesh Kumar, a businessman from Kanchipuram. In his petition, Ganesh Kumar said that allegedly Das' lineage goes back to Nepal and that this has to be probed. If found true, "he cannot lecture about our government and our judiciary." He charged Das with "abusing" the judiciary.
The First Division Bench of Chief Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari and Justice G. Arul Murugan has issued a notice to the Centre on the PIL.
