Heavy Rain: One Missing, Five Trapped in Sircilla
The increased water flow has endangered many, including farmers and shepherds attempting to cross the submerged road downstream of the UMD
KARIMNAGAR: Heavy rains have caused severe flooding, leading to a dangerous situation with water overflowing from the Upper Manair Dam (UMD) reservoir at Narmala village in Gambhiraopet mandal of Rajanna Sircilla district.
The increased water flow has endangered many, including farmers and shepherds attempting to cross the submerged road downstream of the UMD.
A shepherd, Pampukadi Nagaiah (45) from Narmala village, went missing after being swept away by the floodwaters while trying to cross the road. Police and rescue teams have launched search operations.
In a separate incident, five farmers — Jangam Swamy, Pitla Narsimhulu, Dhyanaboina Swamy, Pitla Mahesh and Pitla Swamy — were stranded on the other side of the flooded UMD area.
Police and NDRF teams rushed to the spot, while District Collector Sandeep Kumar Jha and Superintendent of Police Mahesh B. Gite are personally supervising rescue efforts.
Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar assured that rescue operations are underway, while Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar spoke to the stranded farmers over phone, urging them to remain calm.
To support them, officials used a drone to deliver food and supplies. Authorities have warned locals not to attempt crossing flooded streams or lakes. Heavy rains have also disrupted transport in the region.
