Goa Fire Tragedy: Ajay Gupta Brought for Questioning
In a major development, INTERPOL has issued a Blue Corner Notice against the absconding Luthra brothers, who fled to Thailand after the fire
New Delhi: Goa Police on Wednesday brought Ajay Gupta, one of the four owners of the 'Birch by Romeo Lane' nightclub, to the Sunlight Colony Crime Branch office in connection with the recent North Goa fire tragedy that claimed 25 lives at the restaurant-cum-bar. Gupta is expected to be presented in court later today as part of the ongoing investigation.
The development comes days after the massive blaze broke out in the early hours of Sunday at a nightclub in Arpora, killing at least 25 people, most of whom were staff. The Government of Goa has formed a committee to investigate the incident.
On Tuesday, Goa Police detained another accused, Ajay Gupta, a resident of New Delhi. A Lookout Circular had been issued against him earlier. When police visited his residence, he was found absconding, prompting a non-bailable arrest warrant.
The district administration has demolished part of the Romeo Lane restaurant in Vagator, Goa. The restaurant is owned by brothers Gaurav and Saurabh Luthra, who also own Birch by Romeo Lane.
In a major development, INTERPOL has issued a Blue Corner Notice against the absconding Luthra brothers, who fled to Thailand after the fire. They are now being tracked by international authorities.
Meanwhile, Goa Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte said a strict investigation would be carried out “from top to bottom” and that “some heads need to roll.” The Goa Police reiterated the breakthrough in the case following the INTERPOL notice.
