Hyderabad: The Indian Society of Lifestyle Medicine (ISLM) hosted the 7th Edition of the International Conference on Lifestyle Medicine (ISLMCON 2026) today at The Park Hotel, Somajiguda, Hyderabad, with the theme “From Burnout to Balance: Health through Lifestyle Medicine.”

The Conference was graced by Smt. Christina Z. Chongthu, IAS, Principal Secretary, Health & Family Welfare, Government of Telangana as Chief Guest and other prominent dignitaries were Dr. P Kishan, President, IMA Telangana and Dr D Dwarakanath Reddy, past President, IMA Telangana.

Speaking on the occasion, Smt. Christina Z. Chongthu, IAS, Principal Secretary, Health & Family Welfare, Government of Telangana, said that increasing workplace pressures, changing family structures and caregiving responsibilities were contributing to rising stress and burnout. She emphasised the importance of shifting the focus from treating diseases to addressing lifestyle factors through preventive healthcare.


Highlighting Telangana’s efforts, she said that approximately 1.49 crore individuals had been screened for non-communicable diseases at their homes, with around 18 lakh people identified with hypertension and over 9 lakh with diabetes. She stressed that nutrition, physical activity, adequate sleep, stress management and social connectedness were essential to promoting holistic well-being and achieving a healthier balance in modern life.

Dr. Lakshmi Sundar, President, Indian Society of Lifestyle Medicine (ISLM), said, “Burnout is an often-overlooked factor contributing to several health conditions, and it is important that we address both the root causes and symptoms of illness. Through lifestyle medicine, we can integrate nutrition, physical activity, stress management and other healthy practices into everyday life. Our aim is to build awareness, strengthen India-specific research and empower healthcare professionals and communities to make lifestyle medicine an integral part of preventive healthcare.”
