Not a drop to drink: Maharashtra villages reel under drought for 30 years

A local resident narrated that they have faced this situation for thirty years and it is better to die under the circumstances.

Around 30 to 40 villages in Thane district are facing severe water crisis as almost all the wells in the area have gone dry. Residents have to walk almost 2.5 km to fetch water for their regular needs. The government has arranged water tankers which fill all the wells thrice a week. This is not enough to meet requirements, even if it is used only for drinking and cooking. For other purposes people have to travel to River Khadavli, around 5 km away. The government promised that water from Bhavali Dam, which is also nearby, would be supplied to these people, but that will still take a few years. In 2017, a man named Tukaram from this area died on his five km travel to fetch water.
