5) Neerja: Based on the life of Neerja Bhanot, youngest recipient of India's highest bravery award, Ashok Chakra, struck an emotional chord with every Indian. Not just commercially but Sonam Kapoor's outstanding portrayal of the slain braveheart's attempt to save passengers on a hijacked plane is truly commendable. It is by far Kapoor's finest work.

4) Udta Punjab: The rise of a drug-addicted rockstar and his subsequent fall from fame is painfully real. Keeping the abuse of drugs in Punjab as its central theme, the film beautifully captures the essence of a rockstar's life and that fleeting moment of introspection which turns his life upside down. Despite Censor Board's usage of snipping tool and clips of the movie leaking online, the film has rightfully garnered thunderous response. The entire cast's performances were spot on.

3) Pink: A man, without even a slightest tinge of provocation from your end, violates your body and they say It's your fault!' This film is a silent slap to all those who think it is but natural for men to make sexual advances and that girls should be more careful'. The sickening mentality, the all the more sickening approach towards rape/molestation survivors, the who toh uss tarah ki ladki hain (she is that kind of a girl)', the tedious process of getting the police to work- this film mirrors the mentality of all those pseudo-liberalists who talk about gender equality in the day and indulge in household chores by the night (as it is a wifey' thing for them).

1) Dangal: This film is a revolution in its way and comes as no surprise that the film has overcome the hurdle of demonetization with utmost ease. From the picture-perfect portrayal of real life wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat (played by Aamir Khan) to the finest finds of this year- Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra, this film has all the ingredients of a blockbuster. Go to the theatres with a box full of tissue papers because this one will hit your heart like an arrow.
