Yearender 2016: Women who dazzled the silver screen

As we are about to welcome a whole new year filled with exciting films, let's take a look back at the films where women stole all the thunder on the silver screen. This year, we saw women hitting sixes with their power-packed performances in the film.
'Saala Khadoos', a sports drama film directed by Sudha Kongara, featured Madhavan in the lead role of a boxing coach with newcomer Ritika Singh as an aspiring boxer. Apart from Madhavan, Ritika was applauded for her stunning performance in the film.
Directed by Ashwini Iyer Tiwari, Nil Battey Sannata sets to deliver the message that everyone has a right to dream and change their lives, irrespective of social status. Swara Bhaskar shined throughout the film.
Directed by Leena Yadav, Parched, which starred tells the story of four women from a desert village of Rajasthan, India. The four women get together and in a desire for freedom, visit a local fort where they get a chance to talk freely. The film starred Radhika Apte, Surveen Chawla, Tannishtha Chatterjee and Lehar Khan.
The film is shown from the point of view of the flight's head purser, Neerja Bhanot, who thwarted the hijack attempt by alerting the pilots, thus grounding the plane; Bhanot gave her life to help save 359 of the 379 passengers and crew on board. The film was directed by Ram Madhvani and starred Sonam in the lead role.
Director Prakash Jha announced Jai Gangaajal' after 13 years to his first installment Gangaajal', which starred Ajay Devgn in the lead role. The film told a powerful story of an IPS officer named Abha Mathur, played by Priyanka Chopra.
Directed by Karan Johar, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil saw fabulous performances by two beautifully talented actresses, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Anushka Sharma. The two had a very different roles to play and they aced it perfectly.
Abhishek Chaubey's Udta Punjab also happens to be one of those films where every actor was extraordinarily good. Alia and Kareena were showered by rave reviews for their performance in the film.
Directed by Omung Kumar, the film is narrated through the perspective of Sarabjit Singh's sister Dalbir Kaur, played by Aishwarya. The actress showed off her phenomenal acting skills in the film. Sarabjit also starred Richa Chadha, who essayed the role of Sukhpreet Kaur and won hearts with her performance.
