Nilekani was CEO of Infosys from 2002 to 2007 for five years. In 2009, he left Infosys to take charge at Unique Identification Authority of India to spearhead the launch of Aadhaar project. Nilekani was born on June 2, 1955 in Bangalore, now Bengaluru, in Karnataka in a Konkani Brahmin community from Sirsi in Uttara Kannada district.
