Urfi Javed Receives Death, Rape Threats After Winning The Traitors
Social media influencer targeted with abusive messages over her victory as fans accuse outcome of being rigged
Actor and social media influencer Urfi Javed, who recently won The Traitors India, has revealed that she is receiving death and rape threats online following her victory. Javed emerged as one of the joint winners alongside Nikita Luther on the Amazon Prime reality show, which aired its finale on July 3.
In an emotional Instagram post, Urfi said the online hate began immediately after the episode aired, not for her appearance—as has happened in the past—but solely because she won the show. “Being called names, getting death, rape threats, the online hate—but I never stopped,” she wrote. “Not the first time I’ve been threatened, but this time, it's because I won.”
Urfi also shared screenshots of the messages she has received, which include abuse, slut-shaming, and violent threats. The backlash stems from the show's dramatic twist ending, in which host Karan Johar revealed that Purav Jha and Harsh Gujral were the final traitors, while Urfi and Nikita were declared the innocent winners. The decision stunned fans and sparked accusations that the game was rigged.
Several online users, especially supporters of the ousted contestants, have taken to social media to express anger, with some crossing the line into targeted abuse. The show’s producers and platform have yet to issue a public statement addressing the threats.
Meanwhile, finalist Purav Jha urged fans to reject hate and called for calm, asking viewers to be kind despite their disappointment.
Urfi Javed, who donated her share of the Rs 70.5 lakh prize to Nikita, has said she will not be intimidated. “The hate never stopped me before and it won’t stop me now,” she declared.
