Toxic Amasses Huge Openings in Telugu
Yash’s excessive screen presence and the intimate scenes have also become targets of trolls and memes over the past 24 hours.
The much-hyped dubbed film Toxic has reportedly registered strong openings on its first day in the Telugu states. “It collected over Rs 22 crore on its opening day in the Telugu states, which is huge for a dubbed movie,” says a distributor. However, he adds that collections witnessed a dip during the evening and night shows following mixed reports from audiences in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, with the film expected to see a decline over the next few days.
The film has also been facing heavy criticism on social media, with several viewers describing it as a senseless action entertainer. Yash’s excessive screen presence and the intimate scenes have also become targets of trolls and memes over the past 24 hours.
“It has received a largely negative response on social media, with trolls and memes dominating the conversation. The film needs to sustain its collections, especially since it was reportedly acquired for around Rs 80 crore in the Telugu states,” the distributor points out.
Yash had built a strong following among Telugu audiences with blockbusters such as KGF: Chapter 1 and KGF: Chapter 2, earning appreciation for his swag, style and dialogue delivery. However, the distributor feels that Toxic may not have chosen the right plot to capitalize on that popularity.
“Yash relies heavily on gore and intimate content to engage the audience, but that approach has its limitations,” the distributor concludes.
