Rashmika Mandanna and Vijay Deverakonda have opened up about the pressure actresses sometimes face to wear revealing outfits in commercial films, with Vijay urging them to stand their ground and refuse anything that makes them uncomfortable.

During a candid conversation with Karan Johar on Koffee with Karan, the duo were asked about Janhvi Kapoor’s role and the controversy surrounding her skin show in Peddi, prompting a discussion about the expectations placed on actresses in the film industry.

Rashmika admitted that certain commercial films demand revealing costumes as part of their presentation. However, she made it clear that she would not agree to anything that goes against her comfort level. The actress also revealed that she seeks Vijay’s advice when she is asked to wear outfits that make her uncomfortable while working on commercial projects.

Vijay intervened with a straightforward message: actresses should feel empowered to say no. He stressed the importance of standing firm on personal boundaries and having a strong support system to navigate challenging situations on film sets.

Rashmika, meanwhile, emphasised the need for actresses to understand the demands of their characters before committing to a project. She encouraged them to ask filmmakers questions and clarify their doubts in advance, pointing out that there is nothing wrong with seeking clarity about costumes or character requirements.

Vijay further observed that actresses sometimes hesitate to refuse such demands because they fear being labelled unprofessional. This apprehension can make them approach uncomfortable situations with unnecessary anxiety, even when expressing their concerns would be perfectly reasonable.

The discussion has brought renewed attention to the debate over creative choices, commercial expectations and personal boundaries in cinema. While filmmakers may have specific requirements for their characters, the conversation highlights the importance of communication and mutual respect between actors and directors.
