Telugu Producers Council Fixes Varalaxmi Row with Makers?
According to an industry source, producer M. Krishna Sai was keen on taking action against Varalaxmi for allegedly breaching the agreement she had signed for the project.
The Telugu Film Producers Council has reportedly played a key role in resolving the dispute between actress Varalaxmi Sarathkumar and the makers of Police Complaint, after director Sanjeev Megoti publicly accused the actress of failing to fulfill her dubbing and promotional commitments for the film.
According to an industry source, producer M. Krishna Sai was keen on taking action against Varalaxmi for allegedly breaching the agreement she had signed for the project. “The producer was determined to seek strict action against Varalaxmi for not honoring her contractual obligations. At the same time, Varalaxmi also stood firm on her position. As the issue was becoming serious, with both sides making allegations against each other, senior members of the Telugu Film Producers Council stepped in to mediate,” the source said.
The source further claimed that the producer's case was backed by a strong agreement signed by the actress at the start of the project. “Varalaxmi had signed the agreement before the commencement of the film and was reportedly paid close to ₹1 crore. The makers wanted her participation in promotional activities as stipulated in the contract,” the source added.
However, Varalaxmi reportedly maintained that she had fulfilled her responsibilities during the making of the film. She is said to have attended shoots despite suffering a finger injury and gave her best to the project. The actress also reportedly raised concerns about certain creative decisions during production but insisted she had completed all that was required of her during the shooting phase.
The controversy escalated when director Sanjeev Megoti publicly alleged that Varalaxmi had not completed dubbing for the entire film.
“After dubbing for the first half, she did not return for the second half. She made us suffer a lot and asked us to get the remaining portions dubbed by someone else,” the director alleged.
He further claimed that despite repeated requests, Varalaxmi declined to participate in promotional activities. According to him, she was paid ₹75 lakh as remuneration, while additional expenses towards her staff reportedly increased the overall expenditure on her to nearly ₹1 crore.
The matter was eventually settled through the intervention of the Telugu Film Producers Council. According to sources, the council facilitated an apology video from the director and also secured a promotional video from Varalaxmi, bringing the dispute to an end.
When contacted, T. Prasanna Kumar, Honorary Secretary of the Telugu Film Producers Council, confirmed that the issue had been resolved.
“We resolved the issue and I do not want to say more on it,” he said briefly.
