Tamil Politician Seeman Seeks Ban on Jr NTR–Trivikram's Film
The controversy comes close on the heels of criticism from a section of Tamil netizens over the film's title and its alleged mythological backdrop.
Even before going on floors, Jr NTR and director Trivikram Srinivas' much-awaited film God of War has landed in controversy, with Tamil nationalist leader Seeman demanding that the project be stopped over its reported portrayal of Lord Murugan.
The controversy comes close on the heels of criticism from a section of Tamil netizens over the film's title and its alleged mythological backdrop.
Seeman has reportedly objected to what he claims is the film's attempt to portray Lord Murugan, also known as Subrahmanya Swamy, as a deity linked to North India. He argued that Murugan is intrinsically connected to Tamil culture and Tamil Nadu, adding that there is ample historical and cultural evidence to support this belief.
Expressing strong opposition, Seeman warned that protests would intensify if the makers proceed with what he described as an inaccurate depiction of the deity.
"We will not remain silent if the sentiments of Tamils are hurt in the name of cinema," Seeman reportedly said, urging the filmmakers to reconsider the portrayal.
The controversy has drawn fresh attention to the ambitious Jr NTR-Trivikram project, which has generated significant buzz since its announcement. While the filmmakers are yet to respond to the objections, the issue is expected to fuel further debate on social media and within political circles.
With production yet to begin, all eyes are now on whether the makers will address the concerns or continue with their original vision.
