Sandeep Reddy Vanga has been riding high after delivering back-to-back blockbusters as a director, but his latest production, Romanchakam, has failed to make the expected impact at the box office. The film’s underwhelming response has reportedly exposed the filmmaker to a different kind of social media heat.

A leading producer says Vanga, who is accustomed to seeing his films trend for all the right reasons, was surprised by the trolling surrounding Romanchakam.

“He was facing trolls for the first time and was a bit shocked,” says the producer. “Sandeep has been riding high with blockbusters like Arjun Reddy, Kabir Singh and the much bigger hit Animal. He was always trending, but his latest production didn’t impress the audience as much as he expected,” he adds.

The romantic comedy, featuring Sumanth Prabhas and Ananthika, delivers on the comedy front but reportedly struggles to sustain interest when it comes to its romantic and thriller elements.

“It turned out to be more of a buddies’ story, about how friends help a friend in need and crack jokes over drinks,” the producer points out.

Romanchakam marks Vanga’s first notable setback as a producer, rather than as a director. He had placed considerable faith in the film and repeatedly promoted it as a proper comedy that entertained him personally.

The film’s response could perhaps serve as a small warning bell for Vanga, especially with some social media users suggesting that he should concentrate on his core strength — filmmaking as a director.

Production demands considerable time and attention, and juggling multiple responsibilities could potentially take his focus away from his much-awaited directorial projects.
