Vijay Deverakonda.

The much-hyped Ranabaali has reportedly collected a good share on its opening day in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. “It has clocked Rs 7 crore share on the first day in the Telugu states out of Rs 9 crore net collections,” says a distributor, attributing the opening to the Vijay Deverakonda–Rashmika Mandanna combination and the buzz generated by the film’s pre-release promotions.

Vijay Deverakonda plays a fearless saviour in this period drama, taking on the ruthless British with his sword and swagger. “Vijay has carried the film on his shoulders,” the distributor adds.

However, the film has received a mixed response in some centres, raising questions about its performance over the coming days. “It has to perform really well during the Dasara holidays and shore up collections,” he points out.

The distributor feels the romantic track between Vijay and Rashmika could have been given more prominence to balance the film’s depiction of British atrocities. “We have seen Telugu films that showcased the brutality of the British. A stronger love track would have been a better option,” he observes.

Vijay and Rashmika’s fan following could help the film attract more audiences in the days ahead. However, with Jailer 2 continuing to hold its ground, Ranabaali needs to sustain its momentum. “Vijay should go all out to promote the film by visiting theatres across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and give its box-office prospects a boost. Otherwise, it could be tough,” the distributor concludes.
