Sundeep Kishan.

Sundeep Kishan’s next film, Sigma, is gearing up for release on October 2. The film has already generated considerable buzz as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor Vijay’s son, Jason Sanjay, is making his directorial debut with it.

Mythri Film Distributors is releasing the film in Coastal Andhra and Nizam, while NV Prasad is handling the distribution in Ceded.

A few days ago, Mythri Movies announced its association with the film with a poster featuring the map of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh. However, the poster immediately triggered a backlash on social media.

Several people from Telangana objected to the use of the undivided Andhra Pradesh map, pointing out that Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have been separate states for over a decade. The issue quickly escalated, with some social media users questioning the Andhra roots of the Mythri promoters and posting abusive and threatening comments.

Realising the controversy, Mythri Movies promptly deleted the poster. After a brief gap, the banner released a new poster featuring Telangana and Andhra Pradesh separately.

The incident once again highlights how carefully filmmakers and production houses need to handle regional sentiments. In the current social media-driven environment, even an unintended visual choice can quickly become a controversy, putting filmmakers and distributors in an unnecessary spot.
