Sree Vishnu’s much-hyped film Comrade Kalyan has reportedly collected a share of Rs 2.8 crore across the two Telugu states in its first two days, according to trade sources. A distributor estimates that the film’s gross collections have crossed Rs 5 crore plus in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

“It is a decent start, but the film has to sustain its momentum in the coming days,” says a distributor, adding that the next few days will be crucial in determining its box-office prospects.

The film’s team, led by Sree Vishnu and producer Kona Venkat, is aggressively promoting the project in a bid to attract more audiences to theatres. However, the actor’s new avatar has received a mixed response, even as the comedy portions have managed to evoke a few laughs.

“Combining intense Naxalism with humour was a risky proposition, but Sree Vishnu is drawing audiences on the strength of his name,” the distributor points out.

Sree Vishnu has previously tasted success with comedy entertainers such as Samajavaragamana and Single, while films like Mrithyunjay and Swag failed to deliver the expected results. Despite these setbacks, the actor is gradually building his position as a bankable name in Telugu cinema.

“Sree Vishnu has a flair for comedy, but he needs strong scripts to maintain his winning streak,” the distributor concludes.
