The producers (Dil Raju and Ashwini Dutt) of Mahesh Babu’s forthcoming film have decided to go for an out-of-court settlement with producer PVP, after the latter filed a petition in the Madras High Court against them for breach of Intellectual Property (IP) rights.

While the next court hearing has been adjourned to July 5th, Dil Raju and Ashwini Dutt have orally agreed to welcome PVP on board as one of the producers of Mahesh’s 25th film, being directed by Vamshi Paidipally. Paperwork for the same is currently in progress.

Their decision will put an end to an almost two-year long legal battle, which effectively means that PVP shall soon be joining the project as one of the producers along with Dil Raju and Ashwini Dutt.

For the uninitiated, Mahesh had signed a two film deal with producer PVP (the first being Brahmotsavam) and the second one with director Vamsi Paidipally. However, due to contrasting perceptions between Mahesh and PVP, the actor subsequently asked Dil Raju and Ashwini Dutt to produce the film. This did not go down well with PVP, who filed a petition in the Madras High Court in November 2016.

In the petition, PVP stated that producers Dil Raju and Ashwini Dutt, director Vamshi Paidi pally and the writers could not make a film on a story for which he had already spent Rs 4 crores and had the IP rights.

The Court gave an interim verdict in favour of PVP, and directed the above mentioned people to settle the issue before proceeding to make the film. Mahesh Babu responded to the directives by stating that he would settle the matter amicably.

However, pre-production work of the film went on, and the project even went on the floors a few days back.

Interestingly, just when the case was coming up for a final hearing on June 21, producers Dil Raju and Ashwini Dutt approached PVP for an out-of-court settlement, possibly to pre-empt any contempt of court charges.

Now, talks are currently on with PVP and Mahesh’ forthcoming film will be bankrolled by all three producers!
