It’s been over 15 years since screenwriter and lyricist Lakshmi Bhupala entered the industry. However, the writer of several hit flicks like Chandamama, Ala Modalaindi, Nene Raju Nene Mantri and Kalyana Vaibhoghame says that his latest film and Samantha-starrer Oh! Baby has given him a great sense of gratification.

“It’s really gratifying to see the film getting lots of appreciation and its success gives me great energy,” he says, adding, “Oh! Baby has once again proved that ‘content is king’ and that engaging writing is the key to its success. The content of this film has a rich emotional arc and it’s a realistic script that everyone can connect to.” Further, Bhupala adds that he has used his real-life experiences to pen dialogues for the film. “I want to dedicate this success to my mother and grandmother because they have been my biggest influences when it comes to writing dialogues,” he reveals.

Interestingly, although he has worked for several big banners, he never got the opportunity to work with the big stars. “I don’t know why, but I don’t have any regrets. I am happy with my journey,” he reflects.

The writer says that one of his most valuable lessons has been learning to move on. “Every film is a learning experience,” he says, adding, “The film for which I have worked may fail, but I have never failed as a writer.”

At a time when several writers are turning filmmakers, Bhupala states, “I don’t want to become a filmmaker out of frustration. I want to direct films only on subjects I am comfortable with.”
