Looks like Mahesh Babu-starrer Sarkaru Vaari Paata hasn’t ticked off all the check boxes. The Parasuram directorial, which released amid high expectations on Thursday, opened to lukewarm response.

While some call it as “Mahesh show all the way”, many are disappointed with the film. Several are taking to social media to express their reactions.

While the superstar’s character design and his performance are being hailed and described as ‘refreshingly new’, the film is also weighed down by an overdrawn second half and poor writing. However, one advantage the film may enjoy is that there isn’t any big release around the corner.

It’ll be interesting to see how the film fares at the box office.

The producer says it’s a blockbuster!

One of the producers of the film Ravi Shankar urges everyone not to believe social media reports. He says the film has turned out to be one of the biggest grossers in Tollywood! “Going by the first day collections and early trends the film may probably end up being the highest grosser in Mahesh Babu garu’s career,” says an elated Ravi Shankar, who further says that they are also planning to have a success meet in Vijayawada on Sunday.

“Look at the way how families have been enjoying the film; we are glad that the film has struck the chord with the audience,” he expresses, adding that the film scripted history in overseas too in terms of collections.

‘B-wood cannot afford me’ comment ruffles feathers

Mahesh Babu recently said, “I may sound arrogant, but I did get a lot of offers in Hindi. But I think they can’t afford me. I don’t want to waste my time. The stardom and love I have here in Telugu cinema, I never thought of going to another industry...”

Of course, he later said this was taken out of context but it annoyed the B-Town fraternity.

Boney Kapoor

“He may have had certain experiences or reasons for him to comment like that. Hindi filmmakers have a different grammar and way of working and Mahesh perhaps feels that he will not get that kind of price in Hindi that he can command for the work he does in the South.”

Mukesh Bhatt

“Mahesh Babu is entitled to his opinion. Every actor has a price that he expects when working in a film. If a Hindi filmmaker is not offering him that kind of a price, he need not take it up. He is a successful actor in the South, his gratification and expectation needs to be kept in mind.”

Ram Gopal Varma

South Indian films have made a lot of money in the Hindi market, I don’t understand what Mahesh Babu means by ‘cannot afford.’

Whether he wants to work in Hindi or Telugu is his prerogative, but I fail to understand what he meant by the ‘cannot afford comment.’

This Bollywood vs South industry scene has been created on social media. We are Indians and if we look at the OTT platform, language does not matter there, content matters. Ditto is the difference between Bollywood and the South industries.

I have watched and admired Hindi films for many years and we also invite Hindi films to dub in southern languages. It’s not about south or north – it’s about Indian cinema now.
