After having done considerable work in Punjabi and Hindi, Malvi Malhotra debuted in Malayalam with Abhyuham. She is now set for a Tollywood stint with Thiragabadara Saami. Featuring Raj Taurn, the romantic drama is being directed by A.S. Ravi Kumar Chowdary.

Malvi plays a crazy Balakrishna fan in the film. “Playing a fan girl is an interesting experience, and I also have an action sequence. My character has several shades and that’s what makes it more exciting,” she asserts, adding that the film talks about the importance of marriage vows.

The Hotel Milan star says her theatre stint helps her understand and get into character easily. Since theatre plays are long and there are lots of lines to be memorised, it sharpened her memory. “As a result, I am able to mouth lengthy dialogues effortlessly in films. Theatre has also sharpened my acting skills,” she shares.

The actress has done a few workshops with the director to understand the nuances of her character and the script, and has also worked on her diction to get her Telugu lines right.

Working in the South has been a great experience, says Malvi, who was born in Himachal Pradesh. While she feels Malayalam films are more realistic, she finds Tollywood to be dramatic and glamourised. “The South culture and their style of filmmaking resonate with me; it’s a different experience and adds to my repertoire,” says the professional kathak dancer.

According to her, working in multiple industries is like exploring life in cinema. Malvi feels that reaching out to a broader audience is an opportunity to expand her creative horizons. “And working in multiple genres shows my versatility as an actor,” she adds, signing off.
