Mahesh Babu sets a precedent, okays digital rights as pay?

Setting a precedent of sorts, superstar Mahesh Babu has reportedly pocketed a whopping amount from digital rights for his upcoming film ‘Guntur Kaaram’ as part of his remuneration for his action adventure. “He has received Rs 52 crores from digital platforms and it would be part of his remuneration which would be over Rs 60 crores considering his superstardom” says a source and adds, “Mahesh has set a new precedent of sorts by drawing a portion of his pay through digital rights after taking an advance amount. In fact, Mahesh has reduced the burden on the producer by not insisting on direct remuneration and preferring to take a good chunk of his pay via digital rights, quite a pragmatic move,” he adds,

No doubt, the heady combination of Mahesh Babu and Trivikram has triggered enough hype around the film and it has even attracted digital giants. “Mahesh Babu’s film has drawn the highest digital rights for Telugu films in recent times. He even stands tall over his rivals this Sankranthi since those films received digital amounts below Rs 20 crore each while Mahesh holds his numero uno position,” he points  out

Earlier, the Hindi dubbing rights of ‘Guntur Kaaram’ were traded for Rs 22 crores, highest for a Telugu movie in recent times. “However, the Hindi version will not be simultaneously released in north India on January 12. Since Mahesh Babu doesn’t’ want to woo Hindi film viewers with dubbed fare but is looking for a straight debut in Bollywood and then attract Hindi-speaking viewers,' ' he concludes.
