Nani is enacting a Ranji cricketer playing for Hyderabad in his upcoming film Jersey. The actor practiced quite a bit of cricket for his role and is confident that his labour will yield the fruit. “The film is releasing on 19th April and I’d like to say that this one’s the most beautiful, the most emotional, and the most magical film of my career so far,” he said.

About his part in the movie, the actor explained that he’s playing the role of Arjun, who is an ambitious cricketer who aspires to make it to the Indian team. “You may think that the film is all about cricket but I promise that there is a surprise for the audience in the movie. Cricket does play a part in the story — a rather significant part, in fact — but there is an emotional journey involved,” he revealed. He prefers to not open up about the surprise, though.  He added that the film is not a biopic.

The actor further revealed that he didn’t have to make a conscious effort to lose weight for the film. “I had to practice a lot to prepare for the role. And of course, we had to enact the sport for the film. So I ended up losing weight naturally!” he said.

Nani also said that he was so impressed with the story that he wanted to start shooting immediately after the director Gautam finished narrating the script to him. “The story got every cell in my body excited and I wanted to start shooting immediately, which is how this film happened,” he said.

The actor disclosed that he had signed up for coaching with Daniel at the cricket academy near his office.
