A noted Telangana exhibitor—long opposed to ticket hikes for Telugu films—has praised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for refusing to approve higher ticket prices for upcoming big releases War 2 and Coolie.
“Revanth Reddy garu has done the right thing, especially when audiences are already shying away from theatres due to steep ticket rates,” he said. “How can we justify hiking ticket prices for dubbed movies? This is a good beginning.”
The exhibitor pointed out that while Rajinikanth is a megastar in Tamil Nadu, ticket prices for his films there remain below Rs 200—yet Telugu distributors are attempting to push for hikes in the Telugu states. “The Telangana government also declined permission for special shows, which is another welcome step, since fan safety is paramount,” he added.
Despite strong lobbying from producers, the government stood firm, citing possible audience backlash. “Widespread criticism on social media, with many questioning the need for price hikes—especially for dubbed films—could have also influenced the decision,” the exhibitor noted.
Both Coolie and War 2 distributors had reportedly sought a substantial increase of ₹75 for single-screen tickets and ₹100 for multiplex tickets in Telangana. However, the state’s decision to reject the request has been widely welcomed by fans concerned about rising entertainment costs.
