Adrien Brody is a kind of an actor who takes the acting apparatus to whole another level, be it films like Roman Polanski’s The Pianist, M. Night Shyamalan’s The Village or even Wes Anderson films like The Grand Budapest Hotel and Darjeeling Limited which was shot in India back in the early 2000’s.

However, the 52 year old said that he is yet to debut in Broadway regardless of a career spanning 33 years and two Oscars for Best Actor. Much to his contentment, latest reports indicate that Brody will be playing the part of Nick Yarris in the Broadway play The Fear of 13.

The Fear of 13 is based on the real life journey of Nick Yarris, a man who had spent more than twenty years on the death row in Pennsylvania after being wrongfully accused and convicted of rape and murder back in 1982 and who was released in 2004 after a DNA test which revealed his innocence. The play is written by Lindsey Ferrentino and directed by David Cromer, known for the theatrical version of Good Night And Good Luck, starring George Clooney as Edward R. Murrow.

In an interview with a magazine, Brody remarked that his interest in the theatrical productions and the dream of making it to the Broadway is finally coming true. Playwright Lindsey Ferrentino has written the story from Yarris’ own memoir ‘Seven Days to Live’ and also based on a 2015 documentary which is also titled as The Fear of 13. Adrien Brody had previously played the same role in a 2024 production, which was played at the London’s Donmar Warehouse.

The tale of this play is set to show how a routine traffic stop turned into a conviction for murder and highlights the themes of injustice, morality and dignity. Golden globe award nominee Tessa Thompson is set to play a main character alongside Brody. The production will include a partnership with The Innocence Project, which is a non-profit organization, dedicated to free wrongfully accused convicts. Christina Swarns who was one of former attorneys for Yarris is now the executive director of this non- profit organisation.

The Fear of 13 begins it’s previews on march 19th at the James Earl Jones Theatre, with opening night on April 15th. It is proposed to run for duration of 16 weeks.
