In 1998, a cultural activist, philanthropist and businessman, Ranvir Shah, founded the Prakriti Foundation. With an interest in books, art, music, design, Ranvir brought unique and unthought-of theatre events to Chennai. Ranvir's directorial debut, a dramatization of an anthology of classical Tamil poems, The Interior Landscape, by A. K. Ramanujan of Sangham poetry was well received by the critics. The foundation hosts events for scholars, researchers, artists, critics, poets and filmmakers to be able to present their work to those who value it.

Chennai's literary scene has evolved around the years with the coming of age of a lot of poetry groups that give rise to budding poets of the town, giving them a platform to showcase their talent.

Many other groups have joined the bandwagon making it a rich scene for the Chennai's literary connoisseurs. Kavippom was started by Vikram Vaidhya for development of young Tamil poets and writers. The club's goal is to spread awareness about various social issues through their words.

Let's Talk Life is another online community forum that encourages youngsters to express themselves through art, theatre, writings and poetry, especially regional artists.

Poetry Couture's ideology is that poetry is a form of art, and people should have an entertaining night displaying human emotions. Present in five cities across India, this NGO conducts open mic poetry nights for people from all walks of life, budding poets as well as veterans to perform them.

The Mocking Bird poetry club started in 2015 to create a platform in India for people from all walks of life to bring out their emotions. It inspires budding poets to portray themselves through words, poems, slams, versifications and haikus in English or Tamil. They conduct theme nights with open mic sessions in Chennai.

IPC, or The India Poetry Circle, is an association of around 87 poets from all over India who enjoy poetry of all genres. Founded by Jairam Seshadri, IPC on occasion of Madras Day is bringing out a book. "Titled Madras Hues, Myriad Views, it is an anthology of poetry and prose from the pens of 41 poets, accompanied with photographs and art work, as a tribute to the city', says Vidya Sagar, a member of IPC.  

The event is to be held on August 11, 2019 at Odyssey Adyar from 2 p.m. with chief guest P.C. Sreeram who will release the book. Thirupurasundari Sevvel of Madras Literary Society will preside over the poetry reading of the 41 poets.
