She’s the social media queen of music and dance and now she’s treading an all-new path with a Kannada web-series called Hate You Romeo. Danseuse and TV actress Disha Madan will star in a web-series produced by Shivarajkumar’s daughter Niveditha under her production house Shree Mutthu Cine Services, in association with Sakkath Studio headed by RJ Pradeepa. “I haven’t been in the acting scenario for quite a while now — I quit more than two years ago. I did get serial and movie offers, but I wasn’t really interested in doing any of them. But the concept of a web-series intrigued me — it’s something new, especially in Kannada and that’s why I took it up,” she says.

While Disha had acted in a serial called Kulavadhu, her recent TV stints were limited to dancing now, and then for a local TV channel. But it was social media that shot her to fame and helped garner fans from all across the country.

“I started social media influencing a while back and that’s been going good as a professions. I was on a family trip when Pradeepa called and said he has a project in hand and that they were looking for a female lead. I discussed It with my husband and when I met the directors, they told me that they were following me on Instagram and thought my comic timing was amazing. I didn’t know social media had so much power that it could convince someone of my acting skills!” she laughs.

Hate You Romeo is a series which will have seven episodes of 30 minutes each and the cast is shooting for it in Vietnam. Talking about her role, Disha reveals, “I play a traveler-cum-blogger who’s a happy-go-lucky girl.” Working with Kirik Party actor Aravinnd Iyer, she says, is a riot. “He’s so amazing and is the baap of PJs - he’s hilarious! The people at Sakkath Studio have a modern approach towards the industry - so working for them is like a piece of cake as it doesn’t feel like work. Besides, Niveditha is my buddy from college and I’ve known her for nine years now. We used to say that we need to work together in the future, so this is like a dream come true for me,” she says.

While the app Muscial.ly is what gave Disha her popularity, she says, “We’ve now rebranded as TikTok, so we’re busy promoting it. The response to our web-series has been good though. Even people from outside Karnataka who don’t know the language have been sending me messages that they’re excited about it.”
