The cast of Riverdale. The city has a large populace of binge watchers that stream TV serials online.

Netizens from the country have created a space for themselves online. According to a recent Netflix report, Indians are the fastest in the world to binge watch an entire series!

Watching more than six episodes of a show in one sitting may seem like a daunting task for some people, but it seems like a piece of cake for binge watching millennials here.

We talk to some from the IT hub about the binge watching spree they have succumbed to, and which shows keep them up late into the night.

Saas-bahu serials have prepared us for this!
With the constant influx of new content from various sites like Netflix, Hulu, Hostar and now Amazon Prime, youngsters have a range of shows and films to pick from.

“With majority of Indian channels showcasing only saas-bahu type serials, I think most of us are relieved to get a break from them and have some intelligent content to look forward to,” opines Akshay Punjabi, a content writer who is hooked to shows like Stranger Things, Riverdale, Narcos and House of Cards.

No more commercial breaks!
We hear constant complaints of how there are commercial breaks every two minutes. But another thing online streaming sites promise, is no commercials!

“Apart from the melodrama that is screened on our TVs, the commercial breaks that pop up every five minutes are supremely annoying and spoil the viewing experience whether it’s a film or show.

The flow is completely ruined — which is why even I’d rather wait for the show to premier online and watch it break free than loose more time on silly commercial breaks,” says Deepthi Ravishankar, a techie who’s binge watching sprees go upto nine hours at times!

Back to classics
Keeping viewers hooked to shows is quite a daunting task for online streaming sites, with the range options available today. Nonetheless, having an option to go back to classics is quite appealing.

“It’s like a breath of fresh air. To have both the latest and classic movies and shows on demand and ad free is a dream come true. I sometimes binge watch... It all depends on the time or mood or if I’m in the car on a long drive. I watch shows like Blacklist, Master of None,” opines Kirti Bhalla Goenka, a chartered accountant and avid movie watcher.

Interesting recommendations based on past choices
Once serials end on television, viewers complain of having nothing to watch and follow them anymore. But online streaming sites are constantly recommending what to watch next based on the genres!

“You know what’s new and trending these days with ratings. These sites also suggest what to watch across genres and we can pick and choose between movies and tv shows, family viewing, kids viewing, etc. Just some popcorn without ads — what more does one need?” says Sandy, an IT professional.
