Lawyers, paralegals, law firms, fashionable clothes, gripping cases, courtroom scenes, romantic drama and the Harvey Specter effect — Suits had it all! The American TV series wound up with its seventh season recently and continues to remain a popular choice among viewers.  A pall of gloom descended on fans of the show as two protagonists, Meghan Markle, who plays the savvy paralegal Rachel Zane and Patrick K Adams, who plays the legal prodigy Mike Ross, announced their exit from the show. Meghan Markle’s royal wedding and becoming Duchess of Sussex was the reason she bid adieu, while Patrick opted out due to family commitments. We spoke to fans of the Suits in the Garden City about how they think the next season slotted to release on July 18, will play out without their favourite characters.

“I am obviously going to miss the characters of Mike and Rachel. New characters have been introduced and it is going to be interesting to see how things pan out. The foundation of the show will change and it’s best to wait and see if it remains as popular as before!” says Akshath K, a student of Christ University.

The romantic drama and tension between Rachel and Mike was palpable and a lot of fans are going to miss what they call ‘couple-goals’ Shashank Sai, a student of PES University says, “I think there will be more cases as the focus will shift to law firm, Specter Litt.”

Some fans feel that the show will not lose its popularity as it is watched for the content rather than the characters. “The content will remain relatively unchanged,” says Praneetha Maria, a student of Christ University. “I think it’s more about how the new characters are crafted and how they manage to fill in the void left by the old ones,” says Arkajit Gupta, a company secretary student at Yeshas Academy.

But there are some, who feel that the popularity of the show will decrease with the exit of the two main characters. “There will always be that section who watched Suits for the chemistry between Mike and Rachel and the friendship between Mike and Harvey, so with Mike and Rachel gone, there will be a dip in the popularity,” says Tejas Sudhakar, from Bangalore Institute of Legal Studies.

Suits has already established itself as one of the best American TV shows, and with the entry of new characters, the series is set to take a whole new trajectory. “As the saying goes, the old makes way for the new and this is just another evolving plot in the series,” says Jeffrey Thomas from St Joseph’s College of Commerce.
