Karan and Nandita Suchak

Lakshman aka Karan Suchak of Siya Ke Ram fell in love with wife  Nandita before he even met her. The two had long conversations on the phone for almost three months before they decided to take it forward. The duo says that marriage only strengthened their relationship further. In a freewheeling chat the couple reveals some heartwarming moments about the journey together.

Karan and Nandita, how did your paths cross?
Nandita: We met each other for professional reasons. I was into celebrity marketing before. I got in touch with him for an assignment. I guess we were meant to be together.
Karan: We spoke to each other for the first time on the phone — that too, only for professional reasons. We got along well right from the first conversation. That conversation led to marriage.

Was it love at first sight?
Nandita: It’s quite strange but after speaking to each other on the phone for about three months, we fell in love without even meeting each other! It was only later that we realised that it’s high time we meet in person. When we finally met, we were already in love.
Karan: In our case, it was love over the phone! We kept having long conversations for about three months before we met. We knew what we felt for each other right from the start, we just had to express it.

So, what attracted you to each other?
Nandita: Besides the fact that he is very handsome, I also like the fact that he is knowledgeable about a lot of things. That was a winning combination for me.
Karan: I liked how she carried herself with confidence. She is extremely open-minded at the same time she is a girl who values her family. What more could I have asked for?

What was the moment like when you guys said  “chalo shaadi kar lete hai”?
Nandita: Marriage was always on our minds. In fact when we first met, Karan was very clear that he was looking at a relationship and didn’t want to fool around.
Karan: I don’t believe in being in a relationship without a purpose. After knowing her, I always thought about taking the relationship ahead. Even she was happy about my intentions.

What makes your relationship work?
Nandita: I think every relationship works on three qualities — affection, trust and communication.
Karan: I make this relationship work because I realise how important she is to me.  For instance, I have been been away these days since I started shooting for Siya Ke Ram, but distance has only made our hearts grow fonder.

One thing you like about each other and one thing you dislike?
Nandita: What I like the most about him is his chivalry and the only thing I dislike about him is his restlessness.
Karan: Her decisions are very practical they surprise me at times. In fact, I completely rely on her about taking decisions because of her practicality. What I don’t like about her blabbering — I find her cuter when she talks less. Now only if she could put it into practice. (Laughs)

Who makes peace first when you fight?
Nandita: I do.
Karan: She starts and she ends it. I stay quiet!

What are a few dos and don’ts in a relationship you swear by?
Nandita: The definite dos would be, respect for each other as individuals and take the time out to express your love for your partner at every opportunity. An absolute no-no is to never take each other for granted.
Karan: I would advice every couple to always respect each other. I think it is important to make your partner feel wanted and loved. It helps to say ‘I Love You’ often — it works wonders.

What is the craziest thing you did together?
Nandita: We stepped out for an ice cream and brought back a dog home.
Karan: I think that’s the craziest thing we did together so far.

Looking back, is there something you would like to change in the relationship?
Nandita: I wish I met him earlier.
Karan: The past has beautiful memories. Why look back?

If you are marooned on an island, what are the things you would like to take along?
Nandita: I guess our dog, Leo.
Karan: Leo, our pet. I know she can’t do without him.

When you are away from each other how many times do you end up calling each other?
Nandita: Depends, if we are away for work, we don’t talk much over the phone but are constantly in touch over chat. Otherwise, it is normally two-three times a day.
Karan: I call her anytime. In fact, even if I call her at 3 am, she will pick up the phone.
