Actress Tamannaah Bhatia's much-anticipated supernatural thriller Odela 2 seems to be facing a tough time at the box office.

A leading exhibitor revealed that the film has had a lukewarm response, earning just over ₹2 crore nett so far, with an opening day collection of ₹85 lakh. To be considered a success in the Telugu states, the film needs to rake in at least ₹10 crore—a target that now appears difficult to achieve.

“Horror thrillers usually rely heavily on word-of-mouth publicity,” the exhibitor explained. “But for Odela 2, the buzz has been mixed at best, which may further impact audience turnout.”
Tamannaah had reportedly placed a lot of faith in the project, hoping it would open doors to more female-centric roles in Telugu cinema. However, the film’s lackluster performance may cause her to rethink her strategy and opt for more commercially secure roles.
Meanwhile, writer-director Sampath Nandi has been actively promoting the film and even teased a potential Odela 3. But with the current box office numbers, the future of a third installment appears uncertain. Critics also noted that while the film leans heavily into ghostly elements, it underplays the Naga Sadhu's role until the climax, where she transforms into a fiery goddess. The presence of several déjà vu scenes hasn't helped its appeal either.
For now, Tamannaah is expected to return to special numbers in Bollywood while waiting for another strong, author-backed role in Telugu cinema.
