Shruti Haasan Justifies Her Role in Coolie
Shruti Haasan responds to criticism over her 'Coolie' character, calling it a creative vision while highlighting the relatable aspects of Preethi.
Rajinikanth’s Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, featured Nagarjuna, Upendra in key roles and Aamir Khan in a special cameo. Shruti Haasan played a crucial role in the film, but her character, Preethi, sparked debate online.
Many netizens felt that Shruti’s role was reduced to that of a “damsel in distress.” Responding to a question, “Don’t you think Preethi’s portrayal as a damsel in distress is unfair?”, Shruti replied, “She was in distress and it’s someone else’s vision. Not fair or unfair.”
Earlier, Shruti had clarified that the character was very different from her real-life personality. “I don’t think Preethi is like me at all. But I did connect with certain aspects of her. I believe many women will relate to those parts, and that’s what I really liked about the character. Preethi is extremely responsible, extremely focused, and quite inspiring,” she said.
On the professional front, Shruti Haasan has been riding high on success in Tollywood with hits like Krack, Waltair Veerayya and Veera Simha Reddy. The actress is now eyeing more substantial roles in Telugu cinema.
