After making her debut in Bollywood with Bolo Raam in 2010, which featured prominent actors such as Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri and Padmini Kolhapure, she headed South, wherein she made a mark for herself in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada films. Disha Pandey’s previous releases — Bombay Mittai and Jai Lalitha — both comedies, managed to make the audience laugh their heart out and the film-makers smile at their box-office success.

Now, Disha is appearing in another Kannada comedy, Adyaksha in America, but apparently the role is rather unique. “It’s a surprising one and I have been told to keep it that way until the movie hits the screens. All I can guarantee is that it will be another great comedy,” she grins. Excited about her second film with comedy star actor Sharan after Jai Lalitha, the actress says that Sharan is not only a great actor but a truly down-to-earth person. “He motivates everyone irrespective of their prominence. He has worked really hard for over 100 movies, essaying supporting roles before his first in the lead role. And most importantly, he takes comedy seriously. His dedication and humility are truly amazing. This was a big factor for me to take this film,” Disha confides.

“It’s always amazing working in Kannada movies. Despite the success of my two previous films, I could not take up anything new in Kannada as I got busy with back-to-back projects in Punjabi,” muses the versatile actress, who has become quite big on the music video circuit as well. “The music videos in Punjabi, which is very huge, is another thing that kept me away for a while. I have shot for over 12 such video albums. These are no less than any huge budget films, considering their worldwide reach,” says Disha.

Apart from these Punjabi projects, she is also on the verge of finalising films in Tamil and Telugu. And then Subramani, her other Kannada venture starring Srinagara Kitty, for which she has completed the shoot, is also ready for release. Her last film in Tamil, Padam 2, was a horror-comedy with a message about women’s safety. Her next one in Tamil will be majorly shot in Australia.

With so much on her plate, how does Disha plan her life effectively? “Travelling, staying fit and healthy are, by default, necessary aspects of being an actor. Also, working in various dimensions such as films, television, commercial, music albums, and Internet-driven entertainment has widened the prospects of an actor. I am enjoying being a part of such an exciting journey,” divulges Disha.
