Actress Meghana Gaonkar is kicked about her latest film Kalidasa Kannada Mestru. Directed by Kaviraj, the film will see the actor play an interesting ‘pro-English’ character that she’s excited to showcase to the audiences.

“I’ve known Kaviraj for a long time now and whenever we’d meet, we’d tell each other that we should work together and he’d say I’m very talented. When he was casting for Kalidas, he told me about it. I really liked the script, but I felt I shouldn’t do it. However, he convinced me that it would suit me. There was one thing that I didn’t agree with, so we had a discussion that went on for nine hours to get it changed!” reveals Meghana, who will be seen opposite Jaggesh in the film.

The team is now ready to release the film on November 1, which is Kannada Rajyotsava Day, as the theme is centred around the Kannada language. As for Meghana’s role, she states that everything about it is unique. “Usually when people do a role, they want to identify with it, but this one has nothing that’s me in it! She’s stubborn and kind of a villain in the story as Jaggesh-sir is a Kannada master who’s pro-Kannada and I’m pro-English. My character belongs to that part of society that is particular that their children learn English,” she explains.

How was it working with the Navarasa Nayaka? “He’s such a comedian even off set. We were always laughing and having a good time. He has a very good sense of cinema and he’d guide me and help me out. I thought he was going to behave like a very senior actor, but he was very cool to hang out with,” smiles Meghana, whose next film is an untitled project directed by Santosh.

An avid traveller, the artiste loves packing her bags and heading off to various destinations. Istanbul is on her wish-list for now. “Bali has been my favourite trip so far. When you travel solo, you get to draw your own itinerary and do whatever you want. I live in my mind, so for me to be with myself and know history and explore places is like becoming another person altogether. I grow a lot when I travel alone,” she confides.
