Sangeetha Bhat in a new role
Apart from higher education, she says she is exploring new places and getting settled into daily life in Germany.
Actress Sangeetha Bhat speaks exclusively to Bengaluru Chronicle, quashing rumours that she is making a comeback to the film industry and that her #metoo episode was just an attention-seeking act.
Actress Sangeetha Bhat who shocked everyone in October 2018 when she came out in the open, sharing her ten years of ‘struggle’ in the film industry, is at present happily living with her husband Sudarshan Rangaprasad, in Germany. “Acting is like a drug to me, and I never want to get rid of its addiction,” says this actress who, after a decade in films, decided to quit.
She explains, “I said that I am quitting the film industry but never said that I will also quit acting. Acting is a passion for me, which is why I chose it as my profession. After I ‘struggled’ in the industry for over a decade, I decided to quit and, before doing so, I used and definitely not misused the #metoo platform to share my side of the story. In fact, I never directly accused or levelled allegations against anyone. However, the result of it was painful, when, instead of the struggle I went through, it was the reaction to it that gained more publicity. Sometimes it makes me wonder whether I have been permanently renamed as ‘#metoo Sangeetha’. It hurts but I have decided to move on and explore life in a more meaningful and peaceful manner.”
Over rumours that she is making a comeback in the movies, she clarifies, “If I am back, I am the one who will announce it. The rest are just rumours as usual. Every time one of my movies, which I had wrapped before heading to Germany, gears up for release such rumours starts making the rounds. I have two films pending for release, Kapata Nataka Patradari and then there’s Alidu Ulidavaru, a psychological thriller with a love story.”
In fact, Sangeetha who feels that it is the bound duty of an actor to participate in the promotional activities of their movies, has decided to promote her upcoming film — Kapata Nataka Patradari online. “The online medium is one of the biggest revolutions and one need not be physically present and still share and connect with the intended ideologies. One of the best examples is how elections are fought these days,” she points out.
She goes on to explain that as she had already planned to head abroad to pursue academics, she decided to quit rather than take a break from it all. “Taking a break would not have served the purpose. I was already busy with the procedures necessary to apply for further studies either in Canada or Germany. Even Sudarshan is doing his masters in business management and I am currently studying HR management,” she reveals.
Apart from higher education, she says she is exploring new places and getting settled into daily life in Germany. “I can manage a bit of German but I’m not that fluent. I tried to teach Kannada to a few here but I had to give it up as they only know ‘namaste’ and ‘yoga’. Yoga is a big thing in these parts of the country. Also, I feel proud that digital technology has changed our nation so much while countries like Germany are still lagging behind in such facilities,” she says.
Before she wraps up, she humbly requests that she is very active on her Instagram account and that anybody can connect with her for her side of the story rather than just spread baseless rumours.
