Cash'ting couch

The central government’s demonetisation drive has put breaks on the free-flow of money, and the Kannada film industry too is facing the brunt with big banner films postponing their release dates. Even the production and launch of star films is getting delayed due to various monetary reasons faced by this cash crunch.

While the deadline is almost over for note exchange, many producers are eager to release their star-studded projects. This week alone, there are atleast three star films —Sundaranga Jaana, Niruttara and Naanu Mattu Varalakshmi releasing. Bengaluru Chronicle reports on these big releases.

Hebbuli
One of the most expected movies of 2017 sees Kiccha Sudeep starring in it, directed by the Gajakesari fame Krishna. Kiccha will be seen, for the first time in a “commando avatar” and the film also marks the Kannada debut for Amal Paul. The commando look of Kiccha, in his new hair style has become a rage amongst fans. The audio of the film is also expected to be released on the eve of Christmas.

Rajakumara
All Power Star fans are awaiting Puneeth’s most expected film — this one is directed by Santosh Anand Rao of the mega hit film Mr and Mrs Ramachari.

Priya Anand
stars opposite Puneeth, and Tamil star Sarath Kumar features in an important role. According to sources, Power Star portrays
two different stories in Rajakumara.

Srikanta
The other big release, and probably the first one to release in 2017 will be Srikanta featuring Dr Shivarajkumar. Directed by Manju Swaraj of the Shravani Subramanya fame, the movie is about the “common man.” In a daring sequence, Shivanna climbed a cut-out poster measuring 65 ft for the film.

Inspired by a short story, the directed Manju Swaraj has webbed a tale around a common man in three shades. Ajneesh Loknath, has scored the music in which Vijay Raghavendra will also been seen sharing the screen with Shivanna. Malayalam actress Chandini Sreedharan makes her debut in this one.

Chakravarthy
Following his back-to-back failures at the box office, Challenging Star Darshan is pinning his hopes on this next film directed by Chintan. It also marks the comeback of Deepa Sannidhi. She was last seen with Darshan in the hit film Sarathi.

Pushpaka Vimana
Versatile actor Ramesh Aravind’s 100th film Pushpaka Vimana is directed by S Ravindranth will also release soon. Bollywood actress Juhi Chawla makes a comeback to Sandalwood after a longtime for this one.
