Many who aspire to become actors, start learning the basics early on, and then wait for lady luck to turn their fortunes. Yet, there are a lucky few who accidentally land up slam dunk in the middle of work, fame and television. Similar is the case with this pretty actress, for whom acting was never a first choice, or even an option —  all she wanted to do was be an athlete (a 100 metres runner), and work hard to realise her dreams to represent India in athletics. Unfortunately, an injury crushed Kavya Gowda’s dreams at the national level. The actress who shot to fame with her tele-serials Meera Madhava, and Gandhari, wherein she portrayed dual roles as twin sisters, talks about her love for sports and how she ended up being an actor, recalling her silver screen debut for Buckaasuura, and more.

“I never had aspirations to act. All through childhood, my prime focus was on becoming a sportsperson, an athlete. Initially, I would participate in almost all the sports events at school competitions. It was during an annual school sports meet that I excelled, and my confidence level was boosted and backed by my parents. I then started training from class four,” says Kavya Gowda.

Till graduation in BBM, at RV College, she was an avid sports buff. “However, I sustained a leg injury, and my dream run to represent India at higher platforms ended. Especially as doctors advised me not to stress too much. Even to this day, I sometimes feel pain. It was during this period that I accompanied a friend for an audition of a reality show on Kannada television. Surprisingly, I got through and totally shifted my interest,” she adds.

Getting through the reality show, her telly journey continued with the channel offering her the lead role in her debut soap Meera Madhava. Later, she rose to fame with her second soap Gandhari in which she played the popular dual role of twin sisters with two opposite shades. “My debut movie Buckaasuura happened while I was working on Gandhari. I play the role of a lawyer. I had such a great experience working with a talented crew from the Karva team, including star actor Crazy Star Ravichandran Sir, and RJ Rohit,” she shares, while expressing that she does not feel there is a huge difference in acting in TV or movies.

“Honestly, the only difference I feel is that the audience would see us on a larger screen than just their television sets. The rest is almost the same — to perform. Also for a serial, we shoot at least 20 scenes a day, where as in movies it is a scene or more. In serials, one has to slog but in movies we are queens,” she smiles. She has also been busy modelling for advertisements.
