While “kissing” scenes in Indian films are no more taboo (Bollywood, especially), liplocks are still a “hot topic” of discussion in regional cinema, especially when actors are bold enough to venture, and a script demands it, in Sandalwood. Mangaluru beauty Kavya Shetty, who made it big with Nagathihalli Chandrashekar’s Ishtakamya, is taking that bold step, and smiling happily in her upcoming release Smile Please.

The actress has agreed to a lip-lock for the film, which has raised many eyebrows, predictably. Speaking with Bengaluru Chronicle, the actress elaborates on this much-talked about “kiss,” and more.

“While signing the film, I was made aware of such a scene, and it’s definitely not something that popped up surprisingly during the shoot. The scene was shot in the end, and apparently, it does come in the climax. If the audience watches the film, they will realise the need for it. It sensibly alters the whole film,” smiles the pretty Kavya Shetty.

She further reveals that ever since the trailer of the film has gone viral, especially the kissing scene, she has been receiving a lot of appreciation from the members of the film fraternity.

“A number of directors and actors have been calling me after watching the trailer. Almost all, apart from a few, have appreciated it. At times when actresses are limited to a couple of scenes and a song, I am glad that I play a major role in Smile Please. For the first time, I am portraying a character that has two facets. In the first half, I am seen as a traditional girl, but post the interval, there is a big shift in my character. And, this is one of the reasons that the script required for a bolder end,” explains Kavya.

Apart from Smile Please, Kavya will soon be seen in Silicon City, which features Srinagara Kitty. “In Silicon City, I have dubbed for the first time, and I hope the audience likes my voice as they have been kind with my performances so far. When it comes to the kissing scene, I am a 100 per cent confident that the audience will like it. The best part of it is that the scene is shot beautifully, and there is no vulgarity. It also fits into the script beautifully, and is not something which has been added just to draw attention to the film,” she adds.

In Smile Please, Kavya shares the screen with Gurunandan of the First Rank Raju fame. The film is a complete comedy venture. The director Raghu Samarth chose the title because it is a pure comedy — from scene one to the climax. “I am so happy to be a part of this laughter-riot,” Kavya says. She also has another release titled 3 Gante 30 Dina 30 Second that she is busy with. Seems like good luck and liplocks aside, Kavya is on a roll!
