After captivating audiences with glam-centric roles in blockbusters like Pushpa and Animal, actress Rashmika Mandanna is now set to showcase her versatility with a performance-driven and emotionally gripping role in her upcoming Telugu film Kuberaa.

“She will be seen in a never-before-seen avatar, and her performance will be one of the major highlights of the movie,” says a source close to the production. “Director Sekhar Kammula has crafted a very compelling character for Rashmika, and she is doing an exceptional job.”
In Kuberaa, Rashmika stars opposite National Award-winning actor Dhanush, who also takes on a strong, author-backed role. Her Girl Next Door looks in the Kuberaa poster, which generated immediate intrigue, hints at a layered character. The actress is also expected to participate in promotional activities across India in June.
Rashmika recently garnered praise for her portrayal of Maharani Yesubai in the historical drama Chhaava. Despite initial skepticism about a South Indian actress playing a Marathi queen, she silenced critics with a heartfelt performance. “Determined to prove the naysayers wrong, Rashmika poured her heart and soul into the role and delivered a powerful performance,” the source notes.
Her acting prowess was also evident in Animal, particularly in an emotionally charged confrontation scene with Ranbir Kapoor. “She held her own against Ranbir and proved she can deliver high-impact performances,” the source adds. “Even in commercial blockbusters, she’s opting for roles with depth, working to carve out a distinct identity.”
According to sources, Rashmika is making conscious choices to balance glamorous roles with more substantial, performance-oriented characters — a strategy aimed at ensuring career longevity. “She’s smart enough to understand that glam roles have a limited shelf life, whereas memorable performances have a lasting impact in both Tollywood and Bollywood,” the source explains.
She also has a female-centric film titled The Girlfriend in the pipeline, where she aims to draw audiences purely on the strength of her name and acting credentials.
