Actor-turned-producer Rana Daggubati believes the term "pan-India" is outdated and unnecessary. Interestingly, he admits to being one of the early adopters of the phrase but now sees little relevance in it.
"Honestly, 'pan-India' is a stupid term. I was one of the few actors who popularized it because we didn’t have a proper way to describe regional cinema releases in North India. But with the explosion of the internet, such terms have lost their meaning. Regional films have already broken language and geographical barriers," Rana explains.
Recently, Rana and actor Siddhu Jonnalagadda engaged in a lighthearted exchange in a promotional reel. In the video, Siddhu jokingly says he wouldn’t do a film if Rana was the producer, fearing it would end up on OTT instead of theaters. Rana reassures him, saying, "I would release 'It's Complicated' in theaters." When Rana asks if Siddhu would promote the film, Siddhu agrees but questions whether they would attract audiences on Valentine’s Day, a festival mainly celebrated by English-speaking crowds. Rana playfully counters, saying, "Why not? It’s lovers' day!"
In the same conversation, Rana announces that Siddhu will be referred to as "Starboy" in the film’s promotional material, much to Siddhu’s delight. He even encourages the team to book flight tickets for promotional tours, urging moviegoers to watch the film in theaters. When Siddhu skeptically asks, "Theaters?" Rana responds, "Yes, theaters close to you, not OTT."
Interestingly, It's Complicated had been shelved for a while, but with Siddhu's recent rise in popularity, the makers are now capitalizing on his star power. With Rana's sharp business instincts, the romantic entertainer is set to hit theaters next week.
