Pakistani drama Sher faces plagiarism backlash over teaser scene resembling Bollywood's Ram-Leela.

The teaser of upcoming Pakistani drama Sher, starring Danish Taimoor and Sarah Khan, has stirred a plagiarism row, with netizens pointing out uncanny similarities to a pivotal scene from the 2013 Bollywood blockbuster Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, featuring Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone.

Written by Zanjabeel Asim Shah and directed by Aehsun Talish, Sher marks the first on-screen collaboration between Taimoor and Khan. The teaser, released recently, showcases the lead pair in a tense standoff, guns pointed at each other in a dramatic, stylized confrontation. Sarah Khan is seen in a colourful ghagra choli, echoing Deepika’s look in Ram-Leela, while Taimoor channels a rugged action-hero persona, reminiscent of Ranveer Singh’s character.

Social media users were quick to spot the resemblance. Many commented that the framing, costumes, and overall tone of the scene appeared to mimic Bhansali’s iconic visual style. The teaser has gone viral, reigniting debates about originality in South Asian television.

While fans were initially excited about the high-profile pairing and intense storyline, the controversy has somewhat overshadowed the anticipation. Critics have argued that borrowing from established Bollywood hits without attribution reflects poorly on the creative direction of Pakistani productions.

As of now, the makers of Sher have not responded to the allegations. Meanwhile, the debate continues online, with viewers divided between excitement for the show and disappointment over the apparent lack of originality.

Sher is yet to announce its official release date, but the teaser has already ensured that the show remains in the spotlight—albeit for controversial reasons.
