Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie, starring Rajinikanth and featuring Nagarjuna as the antagonist Simon, hit theatres on August 14. In Hyderabad, Nagarjuna’s fans went all out to celebrate, plastering theatres with his posters and garlanding his images.
At Gokul Theatre, fans climbed onto the roof to honor him, bursting crackers, showering confetti, and even performing the traditional “milk abhishekam” on his pictures.
With Nagarjuna’s birthday falling on August 29, some fans decided to start the celebrations early. They displayed posters reading “Advance Happy Birthday Annayya” and continued the festivities with dhol beats, milk rituals, and more confetti. In Vizag, fans carried custom flags bearing his Coolie character image, lighting smoke bombs and fireworks outside theatres.
However, the excitement didn’t fully carry over after the screenings. Many fans took to social media to express disappointment with the way Nagarjuna’s role was handled.
One user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, “Movie was good, climax was super fun, but honestly, Nagarjuna’s character felt wasted & the movie lacked a strong villain.” Another commented, “Wasted Nagarjuna and Sathyaraj’s characters.”
Earlier, Nagarjuna did a special role in 'Kuberaa' and it fetched good reactions from his fans in Telugu states as his role has more meat and substance.
