Mythri Movie Makers Clarifies On Ilaiyaraaja Copyright Row
Both films performed decently at the box office, though the results were moderate compared to their big budgets.
Mythri Movie Makers, one of India’s leading production houses, has completed a decade in the film industry this year. Known for backing top pan-India stars, the banner also made its Tamil and Hindi debut recently with Good Bad Ugly and Jaat. Both films performed decently at the box office, though the results were moderate compared to their big budgets.
Speaking about Good Bad Ugly, starring Ajith Kumar and directed by Adhik Ravichandran, the producers said at a recent event promoting Dude:
“We’re happy with the film. It turned out to be a big grosser for Ajith Kumar. We may not have made huge profits, but we didn’t lose money either. It gave us a strong entry into the Tamil market, and we plan to collaborate with Ajith again in the future.”
Addressing the recent controversy after Netflix temporarily removed Good Bad Ugly following a copyright case filed by Ilayaraja, Mythri Movie Makers offered a clarification:
“We bought the rights for the songs from Sony Music, paying around ₹15–20 lakh per song. The dispute is between Ilayaraja and Sony Music. The songs have been temporarily replaced. The verdict is expected on October 16. We have all the legal documents and followed due procedure, so we cannot comment further while the case is ongoing.”
Expanding their horizons, Mythri has also ventured into Bollywood with the action film Jaat, starring Sunny Deol, and the producers reveal they are exploring more Hindi projects—“provided the right script comes along.”
