Concert at Mumbai's Jamshed Bhabha Theatre will showcase iconic songs of Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle through the lens of Hindustani classical music.
The National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) will present Timeless Melodies at the Jamshed Bhabha Theatre on July 3, offering audiences an evening that explores the connection between Hindustani classical ragas and some of Indian cinema's most iconic songs.
The concert, beginning at 6:30 pm, will feature raga-based film songs immortalised by legendary playback singers Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle. The programme aims to introduce audiences to the classical ragas that inspired these popular melodies while highlighting the musical ideas behind them.
The performance will be led by playback singer Hrishikesh Ranade, vocalist Sharayu Date and their ensemble, with Amit Kakade serving as the anchor for the evening.
Hrishikesh Ranade, son of noted Marathi singer Pramod Ranade, trained under Vijay Koparkar and Shekhar Kumbhojkar. He has established himself as a playback singer across Marathi, Hindi, Konkani and other Indian languages, and has received several honours, including the Maharashtra State Film Award, Filmfare Award and Zee Chitra Gaurav Puraskar.
Sharayu Date, who began her musical journey under the guidance of her mother, later trained with Arati Ankalikar-Tikekar and is currently a disciple of Dr Ashwini Bhide Deshpande. Her repertoire spans Hindustani classical music, Marathi natyasangeet, ghazals, bhavgeet and bhaktigeet. She has also lent her voice to films and television serials and has performed extensively in India and abroad.
Suitable for audiences aged six years and above, the two-hour presentation will offer listeners an opportunity to experience the enduring appeal of film music through the rich traditions of Hindustani classical music. Late entry will not be permitted.
