Coldplay's Ahmedabad concerts generated a Rs 641 crore economic impact, positioning India as a rising hub for global live entertainment, says EY-Parthenon and BookMyShow report.

Coldplay’s two-night Music Of The Spheres World Tour in Ahmedabad has sparked an estimated Rs 641 crore economic impact, setting a new benchmark for India’s live entertainment economy, according to a report by EY-Parthenon and BookMyShow Live.

With over 222,000 fans from more than 500 cities — including Hyderabad among the top six — the concerts at Narendra Modi Stadium triggered unprecedented economic and cultural activity. The report outlines a scalable blueprint for transforming Indian cities into global concert hubs through infrastructure, tourism, and cultural investment.

Approximately 86% of attendees travelled to Ahmedabad, leading to a Rs 392 crore direct boost to the city’s economy and Rs 72 crore in GST collections. Hotel tariffs surged to Rs 90,000 per night post-announcement, metro and rail networks hit capacity, and over 138,000 passengers flew into the city in just three days.

The event also transformed perceptions of Ahmedabad: 78% now view it as a major concert destination, and two-thirds said they would return. Around 36% explored tourist attractions, and 38% shopped locally — signaling cultural tourism growth. BookMyShow’s survey revealed that for every Rs 100 spent on tickets, attendees spent Rs 585 more on hospitality and retail. Nearly half extended their stay, and 71% of shoppers were under 28, highlighting youth-driven spending.

The concerts created around 15,000 jobs, with 9,000 locals employed. Sustainability was prioritised: 34,000 kg of waste was diverted from landfills, and 100,000 biodegradable cups replaced plastic.

The report urges cities like Hyderabad to follow this model and harness the concert economy through public-private partnerships, streamlined approvals, and infrastructure upgrades. With India’s live entertainment market valued at Rs 12,000 crore in 2024 and growing at 19% CAGR, the potential is immense.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the sector’s rise, citing Coldplay’s concerts as evidence of India’s readiness to host global entertainment at scale. The report concludes with a clear message: India is no longer a spectator — it is now centre stage in the global concert economy.
