Moral Putrefaction

Three performances on the theme ‘Raw Power’ by the bands — Moral Putrefaction, Raid from Hyderabad (the main performance of the evening) and Godia were jarring the halls of the Unwind Center with pure metal tracks.

The show commenced with 30 minutes of Moral Putrefaction, a five-piece band playing six songs for over 30 minutes. “What fascinated me about metal is the intensity of the music and the level of skill required to be a master of your own instrument and to command the guitar and drums. The show was aptly named ‘Raw Power’ and we were all set to bring the roof down”, said Ronald, the lead guitarist of the band.  Subsequently, Raid, caught the attention of the massive crowd under the dark lights of the concert with Ruben on vocals, Abishek on guitars, Sam on bass and Bobbin on the drums. The band, in conversation with DC, said, “The experience for us, in one word was amazing. It was well planned and executed due to the commendable event management team, Exodus. Most importantly, the local metal heads of Chennai were the deal breakers. The large crowds filled with supporters of hardcore metal were incredible and by far, this has been the best gig we have ever played.” The show concluded with the performance from the band Godia who draw musical influences from hardcore metal legends such as Madball, No turning Back, Terror, Agnostic Front and Hatebreed.

Raid from Hyderabad

Speaking to DC, Karan, a performing artiste who plays Carnatic progressive rock said, “People in Chennai are always on the lookout for new sounds and new artistes owing to the higher musical awareness and expectations that have been nurtured by its glorious cultural history. Thus there are both artistes who are new and relatively unheard of who are pushing their music through to a larger spectrum of audience and also organisers who are willing to showcase such artistes and their work. I think the industry has picked upon the need for ‘underdog’ artistes by the common audience and is doing well to cater to it as well.”

Godia

“Unwind center has brought several amazing artistes to the stage. They have helped artistes develop a fan base and constantly thrive to make sure the music scene is up and mutually beneficial relationships with the artists because all that they do is promote the music and the musicians,” he added.

“Marketing our performances begins with choosing a good artist for the given day. Using platforms of many social media websites, we focus on creating promo videos, event pages and posters on the same. Additionally, we have newsletters which carry the monthly calendar sent out every month. We at Unwind always create a good platform for artistes whose exclusivity lies in their passion for music. We don’t limit the genres of music played due to cultural differences and primarily focus on the good refinement of music without the influence of alcohol or any form of drugs”, said Eddie Prithviraj, director, Unwind Center.

Another member of the musical institute said, “With the advent of western influences, the present generations are attempting to widen their tastes and one such beautiful attempt is the Unwind Centre.”

Armageddon NXG, Narumgai and Shabnam join the center this Saturday for a night of diverse music including some heavy rock fusion and a unique acoustic performance.
